Processing Kony 2012

Wow.

This video has been getting tons of attention on social media this week and for good reason. It is very well done, very creative, and has a powerful message.

When I saw that it was 30 minutes long I almost ignored it. But I decided to give it a chance and was immediately sucked in. I couldn’t stop watching. I bet you will feel the same way. So, I encourage you to watch this short film in it’s entirety, and then share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Some quick thoughts:

This truly is amazing and a testament to what a few people can do. Through years of hard work, dedication, creativity, and social media work these guys have united millions of people to one singular cause. I think we can all learn something from their efforts to positively transform in the world.

I can’t help but think of Luke 4:17-21. Jesus quotes a portion of Isaiah that prophesied about himself: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

It’s important that God’s people work to stop evil men like Kony. One of our core convictions here says, “the redemption of Jesus transforms every area of personal life and positively impacts every sphere of cultural life.” Because Jesus sets us free spiritually, emotionally, and physically, we are called to engage in setting others free.

Questions

1) What is your reaction to this video? Are you going to do anything about it?

2) I am amazed by this project’s ability to unite people for a cause. Loved this quote: “A bunch of littles could make a big difference, and as a result the unseen could become visible.” How does uniting with others increase your ability to make an impact?

3) What do you think about the 2012 effort to reach the culture-changers?

4) Has the system really been turned upside down? (see 27:05) Can anyone change the world? If so, what is the cause you will broadcast?

  1. 1.My reaction is that i’m happy that people want to do what they think is right but I believe that people are following this organasition based just on this video. I was once guilty of this too. I think people should investigate further and look at where their efforts are going. This video states the money going to Tri goes to the Ugandain military so that means it has to go through the Ugandain goverment. I think people should investigate both Invisible Children and the Ugandain goverment and make an informed decision before deciding what to do. If I find another way to stop Koney then yes but I don’t what way that is.

2.Uniting with others creates an impact because if just one person is saying something people rarely listen but if a whole group of people join in and are standing for the same cause then more people starts to listen.

    3.I think that it’s smart.

4.Yes. I don’t know if any human can change the world whether alone or in a group unless God wills it. I will broadcast the truth or rather what I believe to be the truth at the time.
