YOLO & The Full Life

We love sharing what followers of Jesus are learning about the most full life. Today we have a guest post from Supriya Sajja, a student intern at Grace Church in Snellville, Georgia.

What does it mean to truly live a full life? I thought I understood this concept, considering it much like the YOLO phrase – “You Only Live Once.” My thinking was that I should take every single opportunity to do as many different things as possible.

“When will I ever have the opportunity to do these things, with this person, at this exact moment?  Never again.”  I thought experiencing all God had to offer meant always being occupied. As long as I read my Bible, then I could just spend the rest of my day staying busy.

Recently I realized I was missing a key part of living fully…

Rest.

What I really needed to do was take a step back from the craziness and just bask in the greatness of who God is. I never took time to truly soak in all that He offers and therefore I missed many important opportunities.

It is essential that we spend time not just quickly reading our Bibles but also resting in His presence. He’s our Father, and He delights in the time we spend with Him. Through this, our energy is restored and He releases His deep peace.

Living fully does not just mean YOLO, and I have learned that resting in God is key for us to experience the most full life. #LiveFully

  1. Oh that middle age folks, my age, would have gained this great wisdom at Supriya’s age: “take a step back from the craziness and just bask in the greatness of who God is.” … and “take time to truly soak in all that He offers.” We would have not “missed many important opportunities.” Oh Father, help me to savor the beauty of rest in You as I take delight in Your magnificent creation. Refresh me thru Your Word and give me eyes to see Your opportunities today.
