Christians are called to engage the world, not to escape it.

I am not a huge video game player, but every once in a while a game comes along that costs me a considerable amount of time. Zelda is a consistent favorite of mine, I vividly remember skipping class in college one day because I knew the Lylat system was in danger and I had to help Star Fox save the day, and who knows how many hours I spent on Star Wars games.

Ok, so maybe I can be a bit of a video game nerd, but I am not the only one!

In 2009, video games brought in $10.5 Billion dollars. That’s a lot of people spending a lot of money on something most people consider a waste of time. Continue Reading…

We’ve shared about a few athletes here at #LiveFully, but this guy is definitely worth a shout out. His name is Josh Hamilton, and he plays baseball for the Texas Rangers. He has won the MVP, won the Home Run Derby, and recently hit 4 home runs in 1 game. The dude is super talented, one of the top players in the game.

He is also very vocal about his faith in God, but has had a very dark history with drugs and alcohol. In the following interview, you will hear the following: Continue Reading…

We’ve got 4 great videos from around the web today. Some of them have been tweeted, but we wanted to share them here and add a couple of quick thoughts for each one.

1) Old Man in Nursing Home reacts to music: Music is certainly part of the full life. If you’ve ever wondered why people sing during church, this video explains it perfectly. And it was not even trying to…

2) “Bullseye”: We often talk about the importance of doing things with “Christian” themes well. It drives us crazy when someone makes a film or song, adds a Christian theme, and then thinks something to this effect: “other Christians will watch this because of the message. Therefore I don’t have to make it as high quality.” Continue Reading…

This past week, I had the privilege of attending the Q Conference in Washington D.C.  If you are unfamiliar with the event, I highly encourage you to check out their site here.  In the course of 2 days, I heard from 30 presenters sharing their innovative ideas and stories of how followers of Christ are engaging various channels of culture in redemptive ways.

All of the presenters did an excellent job challenging the participants to think counter-culturally about a spectrum of important subjects. On a personal level there was one message that struck my heart more than the rest, and it’s a bit odd – Live almost Amish. Continue Reading…

I always dreamed of being a professional athlete as a kid. It seemed like they had it all! They played for a job, made an absurd amount of money, had a really nice break for offseason, and travelled for free. If we’re honest, most of us look at professional athletes and think they have a truly full life.

My Dream Job

This week, however, we’ve seen that this is not always the case. For every Tim Tebow, Jeremy Lin, and Bubba Watson, it seems like there is an exponentially larger number of scandals amongst other athletes and coaches. Continue Reading…

Social Media has clearly revolutionized the way we interact with the world. We can literally connect with hundreds of millions of people in seconds. Their purpose is to help you engage with the world, but research is showing that social media actually has a negative affect on our social lives.

Check out this news story:

Now, we love Social Media around here. The hashtag in our name obviously shows that, but we do need to remember what is truly important. It has been said that we are the most connected generation of all-time, but we are also the most lonely. Continue Reading…

* Don’t forget you can easily win free #LiveFully shirts and stickers this week right here! May the odds be ever in your favor…

The Hunger Games movie releases today, and everyone will be hearing about it. In fact, most people already have heard about it. Suzanne Collins’ book, that this film is based on, has sold millions of copies. Additionally, box office pre-sale numbers have been record breaking.

I have not yet seen the movie (although I will be tonight at 8:55pm*), but I have read the books. They are definite page turners, they are intense, even brutal, and definitely thought provoking. Here are some key themes to look out for Continue Reading…

*Don’t forget, you can still win 1 of 10 free t-shirts and 50 free stickers. Check out our Monday post and you will see how to win! It’s easier than losing in basketball to Michael Jordan.

We don’t typically post on Thursdays, but we really wanted to highlight a very cool video some students made in the Atlanta area. It is titled “Cage” and it is powerful. In the video, you will see some real life struggles people go through in efforts to find full life.  Without giving anything else away, here is the video:

First, special props to the makers of this film: Oakleigh, Amanda, Daniel, and Kevin. Awesome job! Second, if you’re wondering that song is called “My Body is a Cage” by Arcade Fire.

We love this video because it shows the bondage that sin puts us in, and the freedom that comes from running to Jesus. So often, we are tricked into thinking the things of this world can bring us happiness, but time and time again we find that they only hurt us.

Jesus, on the other hand, is the truth. And when you know the truth, the truth will set you free.

What are your thoughts on the video? Are there things in your life keeping you away from Living Fully?

I was introduced to this idea in college by a smart man named Thomas Lessl. In his class we learned that the Gospel narrative, or the story of Jesus, is very prevalent in modern mythology and science fiction.

His primary example was E.T., and at first I thought the idea was ridiculous. But then he started listing the similarities and things got interesting. Continue Reading…
